The Blanket Known as Instant Warmth

As kids, the four of us each had our own sleeping bag. Mom saves everything, so as adults one day probably 10 years ago we were going through the old things she had saved, and came across the sleeping bags.

I took mine home, and after a very very long period of consideration, cut out the zipper, sewed a sheet to the back side, and made it into a blanket.

I'm sure as sleeping bags go, ours were not especially expensive. But somewhere in the thin, well-worn lining of my sleeping bag is this thing Shea and I have named Instant Warmth. If one is at all chilly, this is the blanket to grab.

Well, this past week I've dealt with chills more than I care to remember, but Instant Warmth was right there for me. And made the trips to the ER with me also. Yes, they have heated blankets there, but they are no match for my sleeping bag.

Yesterday, feeling better than I have all week, I tackled the patching of Instant Warmth.

Seamstress, I'm not.

But she's in her rightful place in the den again now, at the ready.

(I see that the date on my camera is wrong. Will have to fix that too.)

March 25, 2009

Far too long for a tweet, and I don't know that I want to use the phrase oddly violating transvaginal ultrasound on facebook.

So last week I came home from Vegas. It was a nice week. As I mentioned, I changed my opinion of the place. Pondered to the nth degree why I got the opinion in the first place - much of this took place while stuck in traffic on Las Vegas Blvd.

Also had the interesting experience of going to a book store with a man I just met. Not like off the street met, the guy was in my class this week.

He bought me a book, and I bought him a book, and we each have one more book to send the other. It was nice.

My flight was on time, I stayed up late, then went to bed. To wake up Saturday morning feeling fluish/food poisoned. It got worse as the day went on. I called Mom, and we went to the ER. This time it took two rounds of morphine, one IV. Came home late Saturday. Sunday I felt a little better. Monday a little more better.

Tuesday morning I woke up and skipped the fluish/food poisoned feeling and went straight to agonozing abdominal cramps. I tried to take medicine I had gotten in the ER but nothing would stay in me.

I called and made an appointment with the doctor. Only to get there and have him take one look at me and send me to the ER anyway. Another cocktail of good stuff and two bags of fluids later, mom says I drank a quart of some lemon stuff before they took me for a CT scan. She says I just kept saying how good it was. It was wet, and I was sooooo thirsty.

Seems I have a cyst on my ovary. No telling at this stage in the game whether it is the cause of these episodes. I've got people looking into that, don't you know.

It's remarkable I've been as docile as I have been given that I haven't had coffee in three days.

I will say that my social networking skills have tripled. In addition to Twitter I now have a Facebook thing. Pondring got neglected a bit. Especially while on the road.

Pause while I go change into refugee clothing.

Done. Refugee clothing has no sharp edges. Grabbed a Gatorade while I was up.

And turned the heat up.

It's cool and rainy out.

I have one level of my new deck completed. It's lovely. All the ugly crap that was against the house is gone, the blue siding is gone, and now all the mud is gone. The heat pump is level once more.

Still to come a big honking set of steps and one more smaller level.

I don't think I mentioned that I finally got a ceiling fan put up in the den. Dad and I put it in about three weeks ago. Very nice.

Of course I then changed my mind about the lighting in the kitchen and took down all three fixtures in there. To balance that out, I put UP two sconces in my bedroom.

I have it all written down somewhere.
